What is an EVE Online Reprocessing Calculator?

An EVE Online reprocessing calculator is an essential tool for any industrialist in New Eden. It allows players to accurately predict the quantity of minerals they will receive when they reprocess raw ore. Reprocessing, also known as refining, is the process of breaking down items—primarily ore, ice, and salvaged components—into their base constituent minerals. These minerals, such as Tritanium, Pyerite, and Mexallon, are the fundamental building blocks for manufacturing almost every item in the game, from ships and modules to ammunition and structures.

This calculator removes guesswork by applying the complex in-game formula, which considers your character’s skills, the facility’s efficiency where you are reprocessing, and any neural implants you have. By using an EVE Online reprocessing calculator, you can determine whether it’s more profitable to sell raw ore or to refine it and sell the minerals, a key decision for maximizing your ISK per hour. You might find our guide on the EVE market useful for this.

The EVE Online Reprocessing Formula

The final yield from reprocessing ore isn’t a simple percentage. It’s a multiplicative formula based on several factors. The calculator uses this precise formula to ensure accuracy.

Total Yield = Base Yield × (1 + Reprocessing Skill × 0.03) × (1 + Reprocessing Efficiency Skill × 0.02) × (1 + Specific Ore Processing Skill × 0.02) × (1 + Implant Bonus / 100)

Formula Variables

Variable Meaning Unit Typical Range
Base Yield The base efficiency of the station or structure’s reprocessing facility. Percentage (%) 50% (NPC Station) to ~60%+ (Rigged Upwell Structure)
Reprocessing Skill Your character’s level in the core ‘Reprocessing’ skill. Integer 0-5
Reprocessing Efficiency Skill Your character’s level in the ‘Reprocessing Efficiency’ skill. Integer 0-5
Specific Ore Processing Skill Your level in the skill for the specific ore (e.g., Veldspar Processing). Integer 0-5
Implant Bonus The percentage bonus from a reprocessing implant. Percentage (%) 0%, 1%, 2%, or 4%

Practical Examples

Example 1: High-sec Miner

A newer player is reprocessing 100,000 units of Veldspar in a standard NPC station in high-sec. They have good but not perfect skills.

  • Ore Type: Veldspar
  • Quantity: 100,000 units
  • Inputs: Base Yield (50%), Reprocessing (5), Reprocessing Efficiency (4), Veldspar Processing (3), Implant (0%).
  • Calculation: 50% × (1 + 5×0.03) × (1 + 4×0.02) × (1 + 3×0.02) × (1 + 0/100) = 66.45% Yield
  • Result: 100,000 units of Veldspar (1000 batches of 100) at 415 Tritanium per batch gives 415,000 base Tritanium. With 66.45% yield, they receive ~275,618 units of Tritanium.

To improve, this player could train their skills further or look into our manufacturing calculator to see what they can build.

Example 2: Null-sec Industrialist

An experienced industrialist is reprocessing a large haul of Arkonor in their corporation’s T2-rigged Tatara in null-sec. They have perfect skills and implants.

  • Ore Type: Arkonor
  • Quantity: 50,000 units
  • Inputs: Base Yield (54%), Reprocessing (5), Reprocessing Efficiency (5), Arkonor Processing (5), Implant (4%).
  • Calculation: 54% × (1 + 5×0.03) × (1 + 5×0.02) × (1 + 5×0.02) × (1 + 4/100) = 81.71% Yield
  • Result: Arkonor contains Tritanium, Mexallon, and Megacyte. With this high yield, the pilot receives a significantly larger mineral return, making their operation highly profitable. Understanding the best mining ships is key to getting this much ore.

How to Use This EVE Online Reprocessing Calculator

  1. Select Ore Type: Choose the ore you wish to reprocess from the dropdown menu.
  2. Enter Quantity: Input the total number of ore units you have.
  3. Set Base Yield: Enter the base reprocessing percentage of the station or structure you are in. You can find this in the ‘Industry’ window in-game. NPC stations are typically 50%. Player-owned Upwell Structures vary.
  4. Input Skill Levels: Select your character’s levels for the three relevant reprocessing skills.
  5. Add Implant Bonus: If you have a reprocessing implant plugged in (like a Zainou ‘Beancounter’), enter its percentage bonus. Leave it at 0 if you don’t have one.
  6. Interpret Results: The calculator will instantly update, showing your total effective yield percentage and a table detailing the exact amount of each mineral you will receive. The bar chart provides a visual breakdown of the mineral quantities.

Key Factors That Affect Reprocessing Yield

  • Structure & Location: Where you reprocess matters most. A player-owned Tatara citadel with T2 reprocessing rigs in null-sec offers a much higher base yield than a standard NPC station in high-sec.
  • Character Skills: The three main skills (‘Reprocessing’, ‘Reprocessing Efficiency’, and the specific ore skill) are multiplicative. Getting all to Level 5 is crucial for any serious industrialist.
  • Implants: The Zainou ‘Beancounter’ implant series (RX-801, RX-802, RX-804) provides a direct 1%, 2%, or 4% boost to the final yield, which can be extremely valuable for large-scale operations.
  • Ore Variants: Ores come in +5%, +10%, and +15% variants (e.g., Concentrated Veldspar, Dense Veldspar). These variants contain more minerals and are highly sought after. Our calculator uses the base ore type; you must manually adjust the final mineral count for these bonuses.
  • Corporation Standings (Tax): While not affecting yield, your standings with an NPC corporation affect the tax you pay on the value of the reprocessed minerals. High standings can reduce this tax to zero. Player structures have variable taxes. This is a factor for your final profit, which our PI calculator also considers.
  • Batch Size: The standard reprocessing batch size for ore is 100 units. The base mineral quantities are given for a 100-unit batch. Reprocessing less than 100 units will result in wasted ore, as you get nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the maximum possible reprocessing yield?

The theoretical maximum yield is achieved in a perfectly rigged player structure with perfect skills and the best implant. This can push yields well over 80% and, in some very specific circumstances with faction rigs, even higher. For most players in high-sec, a realistic perfect goal is around 72-75%.

Why am I getting less than the calculator shows?

The most common reasons are: 1) Reprocessing a quantity that is not a multiple of 100 (e.g., 199 units will only yield minerals for 100), or 2) Mis-entering your skill levels or the station’s base yield. Double-check the values in-game.

Is it always better to reprocess ore?

Not always. The decision depends on the market. Sometimes, the price for raw ore is inflated due to high demand from other players (who may have better refining skills than you), making it more profitable to sell the ore directly. Always check market prices for both ore and minerals.

Does the Scrapmetal Processing skill affect ore?

No. Scrapmetal Processing only affects the yield from reprocessing modules, ships, and other manufactured items. It has no effect on raw ore or ice.

How do ore variants (+5%, +10%) work with this calculator?

This calculator uses the base mineral amounts. To calculate the yield for a +10% variant, you would first calculate the yield here, and then increase the final mineral amounts by 10%.

Which ores give the most Tritanium?

Veldspar is the king of Tritanium in high-sec. In other areas of space, ores like Gneiss and Crokite can also be excellent sources of Tritanium alongside their other valuable minerals.

What are the ‘Zainou ‘Beancounter’ RX’ implants?

They are high-slot implants that directly increase your reprocessing yield. The RX-801 gives a 1% bonus, RX-802 gives 2%, and the expensive RX-804 gives a 4% bonus. They are a must-have for serious industrialists.

Where can I find a Tatara for the best reprocessing?

Tataras are player-deployed citadels, most commonly found in null-sec and low-sec space, owned by player corporations. They are often part of large industrial hubs. You’ll need to join a corporation or find a public structure to use one.
