Persona 4 Fusion Formula and Explanation
Normal fusion in Persona 4 follows a two-step formula. First, the Arcana of the resulting Persona is determined by a fixed chart based on the Arcanas of the two fused Personas. For example, fusing a Magician Persona with a Temperance Persona will always result in a Hierophant Persona.
Second, the base level of the new Persona is calculated. The game takes the average of the base levels of the two ingredient Personas and adds one. The final result is the first Persona available in the target Arcana that has a base level equal to or higher than this calculated value.

Key Factors That Affect Persona 4 Fusion
- Arcana Combination: The single most important factor. The two Arcanas of the ingredient Personas dictate the Arcana of the result, which narrows down the possibilities immensely.
- Base Level: The starting level of a Persona is used for the fusion calculation, not its current trained level. This ensures predictable outcomes.
- Special Fusions: Some Personas can only be created through specific combinations of three or more Personas (Triangle, Cross, etc.). This calculator focuses on standard two-Persona fusions. For more complex recipes, you may need a Special Fusions Guide.
- Same-Arcana Fusion: Fusing two Personas of the same Arcana results in a “downgrade,” producing a Persona of the same Arcana but with a lower rank. Our calculator does not handle this specific exception.

- This is likely because your character’s level is too low. You cannot create a Persona with a base level higher than your own. Keep leveling up and try again!
- Does the current level of my Personas matter?
- No, for determining the fusion result, only the base level is used. The current level and stats only matter for the skills they can pass on during Skill Inheritance.
- What about Triangle or Cross Fusions?
- This tool is a normal Fusion Calculator Persona 4 designed for two-Persona fusions. Special fusions require three or more specific Personas and are not covered here.
- Why is the result a much higher level than the ingredients?
- This happens when there are large gaps between the levels of Personas within an Arcana. The formula finds the *next available* Persona at or above the calculated level, which might be many levels higher.
- How are skills inherited?
